God Can Do More Than You Imagine (Ephesians 3:20)

Ephesians 3:20 | A Bible Verse of Encouragement

There are seasons in life when your prayers feel small compared to your problems.

You may be asking God for stability. For healing. For provision. For peace. For direction.

And quietly wondering…
“Is this even possible?”

That’s why Ephesians 3:20 is such a powerful reminder:

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” — Ephesians 3:20 (KJV)

Exceeding.
Abundantly.
Above all.

Not barely enough.

Not just scraping by.

Above what you can even imagine.

God’s Ability Is Not Limited by Your Situation

Sometimes we measure God by what we see.

If money is tight, we think small.
If health is fragile, we think cautiously.
If relationships are strained, we lower expectations.

But this verse reminds us that God’s power is not limited by our circumstances.

He does not operate within our limitations.

Isaiah 55:8 says:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.”

What feels impossible to you may simply be the beginning of God’s plan.

We Often Pray Too Small

Many of us pray safe prayers.

“Lord, just help me get through today.”
“Lord, just make this bill manageable.”
“Lord, just keep things from getting worse.”

There is nothing wrong with those prayers. God cares about daily needs.

But Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God can do more than survival.

He can restore.
He can rebuild.
He can open doors you did not even know were there.

Psalm 37:4 says:

“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

God is not intimidated by big requests.

The Power That Works in Us

Notice the last part of the verse:

“According to the power that worketh in us.”

This is important.

God’s power is not distant. It is active. It is working, even when you cannot see visible change yet.

Sometimes He is changing you before He changes the situation.

Strengthening your patience.
Building your discipline.
Deepening your faith.
Growing your endurance.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.”

Even delays.
Even detours.
Even disappointments.

God is still working.

Don’t Let Your Imagination Be Limited by Fear

It is easy to imagine worst-case scenarios.

“What if this doesn’t work out?”
“What if I fail?”
“What if nothing changes?”

But what if God does something greater than you expected?

What if the closed door protects you from something you cannot see?

What if the waiting season builds strength you will need later?

Jeremiah 29:11 says:

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

God’s plans are not random.

They are intentional.

And they are good.

God is able to provide in ways beyond what you expect.

Faith Expands Your Expectation

Faith does not ignore reality. It simply refuses to let reality have the final word.

The way you speak about your future matters.

When you hold onto Ephesians 3:20, you begin to think differently.

Instead of:
“This is all there is.”

You begin to say:
“God is not finished.”

Instead of:
“I can’t see a way.”

You say:
“God can make a way.”

Hebrews 11:1 says:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Just because you cannot see it does not mean God is not preparing it.

When you feel like nothing is changing, remember we are told to be not weary in well doing.

When You Feel Discouraged

If you are in a season of responsibility and exhaustion, this encouragement is especially for you.

Encouragement is not pretending everything is perfect.

Encouragement is remembering who God is.

He is able.

Able to provide.
Able to heal.
Able to restore.
Able to surprise you.

Matthew 19:26 says:

“With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

All things.

Not some things.

All.

You Are Not Stuck Where You Are

Where you are right now is not necessarily where you will always be.

Situations change.
Doors open.
Favor shifts.
Opportunities appear.

But even before circumstances shift, your hope can shift.

You can begin expecting God to move in ways beyond your imagination.

Not because life is easy.

But because God is powerful.

A Prayer of Expectation

Heavenly Father,
You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think. Help me to trust You beyond what I can see. Expand my faith. Strengthen my expectation. Guard my heart from discouragement.

Remind me that You are working even when I feel stuck. Teach me to pray boldly and believe confidently.

I surrender my small thinking and place my hope in Your unlimited power.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
